Take Note Troupe Awarded California Arts in Parks Grant

Take Note Troupe Receives Generous Grant for 2026 Shakespeare in the Park
Parks California selected Take Note Troupe as a recipient of their 2025 Arts in California Parks Implementation Grant! Over 200 organizations applied for this opportunity and TNT is one of only 30 grant recipients for 2025. This is a huge honor and blessing to our program and we feel humbled and grateful to be recognized as an organization that brings artistic value and strength to our community!
Grant Funds the Fusion of Eastern and Western Arts in Northern California
This 2025 Arts in California Parks Implementation Grant is specifically aimed at funding our 23rd annual Shakespeare in the Park production, slated for May and June 2026. We are so excited to announce that we will be performing Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and will be adapting it with a Bollywood theme. This grant will allow us, among other things, to source choreographers of Indian heritage who can provide us with cultural direction as well as helping us construct authentically Indian dances. These consultants will also provide cultural workshops for our cast of youth to help them learn to better appreciate a culture that makes up one of the immigrant minorities in our Placer and Sacramento County area.
TNT is excited to present this fusion of Western and Eastern arts with this Indian influenced adaptation of William Shakespeare. We hope to show that Shakespeare’s themes and messages are able to cross both cultural and historical differences.
Opportunities for Local Students Possible through the Arts in California Parks Implementation Grant
Additionally, the grant will allow us to provide workshops for local middle and high school students about Shakespeare and this particular show, hoping to demonstrate to youth that Shakespeare’s messages are still relevant and valuable today. Teachers who are interested in hosting such a workshop should reach out to [email protected].
This grant will allow us to provide scholarships for youth who are cast in the production, offering a discounted tuition for all participants and need based scholarships when appropriate. Those who wish to audition should visit our website for more information.
Anticipated Free Shakespeare in the Park Shows in the Community
As always, the performances will be free in the park to all audience members. We anticipate performing at Zittell Family Amphitheater in Historic Folsom, at the Village Park Bandshell in Fair Oaks, and in Rocklin’s Amphitheater at Quarry Park.
