High Schoolers Can Compete at October 2024 Cedar City Shakespeare Competition with Take Note Troupe
9th-12th Grades Can Participate in Transformative Experience
Take Note Troupe is excited to announce our participation in the national High School Shakespeare Competition hosted by the Utah Shakespeare Festival, October 3-5, 2024, in Cedar City, Utah. Students who will be in grades 9th-12th in the Fall of 2024 are welcome to participate if meeting prerequisites.
It has been many years since TNT participated in this event, but the youth who participated still look back on this experience as transformative. We can promise that those who put in the effort ahead of time and go to this competition will grow tremendously in their acting skills and be better prepared for Shakespeare in the Park 2025 and future competitions.
Participants Must Attend TNT Summer Prerequisite Workshop and Coaching Sessions
This is a merit based opportunity. Participants must attend a prerequisite workshop and additional coaching sessions happening in August and September. There are 2 options to attend the prerequisite workshop. The cost for the workshop and the August/September coaching is $200.
Choose one of these two prerequisite workshops (listed under our Summer Camps) to attend:
- June 13-15
- June 27-29
Participants will be expected to learn their lines during the “off month” of July to be prepared for August sessions.
Additional coaching sessions Thursdays in August 5:30pm-9:00pm and Saturday rehearsals in September 9am-1pm.
Several Categories for High Schoolers to Compete In
If selected to compete, participants will be assigned a monologue or scene that they will independently prepare before working with a director during the August coaching sessions. (**All who participate in our workshops and apply to participate will be a part of our dance performances, so everyone will get to compete, even if they aren’t selected for a scene.**)
The categories to compete are as listed:
- 3 Monologues
- 2 Duo or Trio Scenes
- 1 Ensemble Scene
- 1 Madrigal
- 1 Dance Duo or Trio
- 1 Dance Ensemble
The competition offers instructive workshops and educational adjudication of scene work.

All of the logistics are subject to change- talk to us if you have a scheduling need to see if we can accommodate it.
We also anticipate attending The Utah Shakes’ productions of Much Ado About Nothing and/or The 39 Steps. Participants will be responsible to pay for their lodging, food, transportation and show tickets. Take Note Troupe will cover the registration fee for the competition.
